Camping, South Australia. 02/13/2010
With hundreds of designated campgrounds, South Australia's parks offer a variety of natural settings to pitch a tent, park the camper trailer or simply roll out your swag under the stars. Travellers will find powered sites and all essential facilities at Rocky River Campground in Flinders Chase National Park and at the Naracoorte Caves National Park campground. Set up base at one of the campgrounds (equipped with water, toilets, barbecues, rubbish disposal and possibly showers) and explore the local treasures of these national parks and reserves:
Campgrounds with minimal or no facilities are also found in many national parks and reserves, with some being only accessible via walking trails. Roof top tents. 12/25/2009
A set up I have always admired for its great design is the roof top, tent. Perhaps this is best suited to those who are happy to live with less comforts than a caravan gives you but for those who love adventure, do not mind the set up and stairs to climb there is the advantage of being able to go to a lot more places and not needing to tow. I would not mind having one of these for a month, just to tour the Gibb River Road and the Northern Kimberley. Roof top tents are certainly worth a look. They usually mount on top of a wagon or car and have a tent style, living area that folds out at the side or the back of the vehical and it folds back down over your own bed, like a pack rack bag, when you travel. It might not have the comforts of a caravan but it is has access to four wheel drive only country, advantages and it is a lot safer than placing a tent directly on the ground. |
