There are some fabulous prices available for fly drive tours of New Zealand, if booked soon. Facebook keeps tempting me with sidebar adds saying fly drive NZ for $525. and as we are forgoing heading north in Australia for winter and staying south so we can give our youngest daughter Carla and her husband a getaway, (mind the home and dog for them), I thought I might scrape up a north Island NZ treat late winter, but I could not interest Reg. My grey nomad loves his own caravan too much and could not grasp that a trip north in Australia probably costs just as much as a trip to New Zealand. Air fairs and motor home hire deals when on sale price, are no more costly than the 10,000 k car service and wear n tear on tires for the distance we travel when we head north west Australia. Traveling a shorter distance this year, Western Victoria and South Australia for our tour, I thought I could afford a short fly away holiday treat at the end with the savngs on our usual travel costs this year. Have you toured New Zealand in August? How wet and cold would it be at that time of year compared to say, Victoria, Australia? What a visitor should see in Cape Town South Africa It is a land of magnificent scenery, breathtakingly beautiful mountains from the ever present in the background, majestic Table Mountain to the mountainous countryside surrounding beautiful river valleys with the many dams where these mountains reflect to form picture postcard perfect landscapes. The beaches are pristine white sand with the incredible backdrop of mountain and the gardens are as vibrant as the culture, bright, colourful and many plants are unique to this area, all flourish here in the warm summer climate. The shopping, sport and road system is the best in the world. Cape Town, considered, one of the most beautiful areas in Africa has a fascinating character and cultural mix of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British, German settlers, the African Khoisan (Bushman & Hottentot) local tribes and the northern Bantu tribes. Tour guides speak English, German and French as well as other foreign languages and can help with Cape Town accommodation suggestions. This is a wonderful place to consider for a perfect vacation. If you only have a short time available, to explore the area, consider a scenic flight. If you have more time and the weather permits, take a trip to the top of Table Mountain. The mountain can be climbed, on foot, on safe paths, or by cable car for the less adventurous - either route is equally memorable. This country is unique in its natural beauty and Table Mountain has to be seen, from every possible vantage point, as it surely is a natural wonder of the world. The currency is the Rand and it can stretch, as a lot of the beauty of this area, is free for the gazing. While there are many up market areas, Cape Town attracts a diverse range of tourists from around the world to stay in the hotels in Cape Town and many enjoy the exclusive shopping offered in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront complex, or the more colourful market of Greemarket Square. There are many free or low cost ways to be entertained in this city with the Table Mountain backdrop. If you are entering South Africa, at Port Elizabeth, or touring there, you will find are some excellent Port Elizabeth hotels. Port Elizabeth is a good two day journey from Cape Town. I would like to thank, fellow writer, Carol Willis, a proud South African resident, for assisting me to provide this information about what a visitor should see in Cape Town South Africa. Here is a recent article by Carol Willis, 'What the Super14 final meant to me and my country' . This shows more of the beauty of many cultures interacting together to create a beautiful country, that is perfect for a traveler to visit, than any travel brochure could convey. Thank you Carol J. Your shared insight into your country has added a lot to my attempt to show the beauty of Cape Town, South Africa. I toured, last week enjoying rose and perennial gardens in the Goulburn valley, Yarra valley and in the Dandenong Ranges of Victoria. I came home to my own late spring display of Delbard, French roses in my own small cottage garden that was inspired by the plants and romantic settings in the gardens of Giverny. Today my flowerbeds have a colourful display of roses, the last of the bearded iris and the first of the summer lilies. I see the soft green foliage of grape vines and wisteria over arbors, back dropped by an avenue of poplar trees. I want to grab my French easel and paint, en plein air impressionist, garden pictures or head off into the field to paint the surrounding rural landscape. My mind turns to think about the great impressionist artists and the country that founded the impressionist movement ~ France. The French impressionist Claude Monet, in particular, has inspired my life, both through his garden design and his art. I would love to visit the great gardens of France, stay in quaint farmhouses, which have been set up as bed and breakfast accommodation and wander around the countryside of France, soaking in the atmosphere. To visit Monet’s garden at Giverny, would, be to fulfil an artistic pilgrimage of appreciation to this great artist. I already know I would love the country and climate; it is similar to picturesque parts of my own homeland. I could imagine staying in quaint cottages and farmhouse bed and breakfast accommodation so I could soak in the atmosphere and beauty of the countryside of France. The parks and gardens of Paris have been are described by others as places of elegance and artistic delight. Paris is famous for bringing the beauty of nature, right into the city. I would stay at Paris hotels, so I could tour the gardens of Paris. I adore the impressionist paintings of Parisians picnicking in parks and gardens. Sigh, (I am getting all dreamy. Thinking about bed and breakfast and accommodations in Paris France, makes me want to paint even more, and plan a painting tour of Paris and France. Right now, though, I’m going to pack my French easel and go paint on location (en plein air), while I am feeling so inspired by the city and country, known internationally, for its fostering of the arts. With the Australian dollar souring in value against oversees currencies; many nomads might be planning an overseas holiday while the dollar is stretching so far. There are some fantastic web sites filled with information for the adventurous traveller. The Australian Government has travel advisory web site at Smart Traveller at a quick glance into the site I see it also gives some great advice on how to avoid internet scams. I have read the little black book of scams that can be ordered via this web site and consider it a 'must read' even if you never travel.
