Our Eco Tourer, Slipstream caravan and plans for our future gray nomad years. 07/12/2009

The eco-tourer model we have, is the off highway, en-suite, model with extra heavy duty suspension , small truck tyres, air conditioning, large roof vents, and fan and solar panel. We love it.

Reg and I live and tour in our Eco Tourer, Slipstream, caravan for most of the year though we have a small summer retreat near our children and grandchildren. We hope to continue living this gray with an a for active, nomad lifestyle for another fifteen years, if we are fortunate enough to.

I am an author, artist, and I write my novels and Reg goes fishing and we both love bush walking and the gray with an a for active lifestyle.

Hi Kathy,

Found your blog while researching the eco tourer - love the idea of your lifestyle of 6 months in and 6 months travelling. I am your age (but I don't paint - have done a bit over the years, but it has not been possible for me to focus on it, altho I would love to, and plan to when I fully retire), my husband Andrew is 67, and we have done several outback trips in our LC 79 with slide-on, but we are working towards getting a troopy bushman next year, and I am aiming to add the Eco to this for greater comfort.

I hope you don't mind my writing to you, but I am having alot of trouble finding people who have taken the ET alot off road. The manufacturers say it will go anywhee your car will go, and they claim that they haven't had any come back for repairs (other than for stone damage, but I did come across an unconfirmed reference to an ET with a wrecked chassis at Drysdale Station, on the Gibb River Road. Don't know if it was an off highway version or not. Tassy Terry from Tasmania said they took their ET over this road and that it managed the corrugations and river crossings without any dramas.

As you seem to be spending alot of time in the areas that we will be in also, the Pilbara, Kimberleys, northern Australia etc., I am wondering if you have encountered any problems with the van over these rougher roads? I wouldn't attempt to tow to the Cape, but I would like to travel the Savannh Way, and I'm not sure if Cape Levecque is towable territory. If there are roads that you would not venture on with the ET, what might some of those be? Did you have any further suspension upgrading done, or is it stock standard?

Sorry about all these questions, but I was so excited to find people who actually take this van to so many of the places that we will be eventually travelling to, that I would really appreciate hearing from you sometime.

Like many people, we are still repairing damaged balance sheets after this economic hurdle, and I am constrained by a frail and elderly father at the moment, so don't feel we can get away for the lengthy trips we are planning. We live in Sydney.
