Parks Victoria is advising visitors to take extreme care when travelling through East Gippsland this weekend due to the deluge of rain and heavy winds that have battered the region over the past week.
Parks Victoria Chief Ranger Mr Will McCutcheon said the Snowy River, Errinundra, Croajingolong and Coopracambra National Parks have received over 100mm rain in the past two days and impacts are alreadybeginning to show.

Current closures include the McKenzie River Rainforest walk at the Bemm River Scenic Reserve, as well as the WB Line at the Coopracambra National Park.
“We are advising visitors to take precautions when travelling within remote areas of the National Parks as there may be flooding risks from swollen rivers and creeks and increased chances of landslips, falling rocks and falling trees.

A great alternative to car touring through the National Parks this weekend would be a visit to the Buchan Caves reserve to explore the beautiful limestone formations. The Buchan Caves Reserve has not been affected by the heavy rains and is open all weekend with regular tours of the Caves throughout the day.
Visitors are advised to listen to local radio broadcasts to obtain the latest weather and forecast updates across the weekend.

“In these conditions, visitors need to be aware that some parks may need to have tracks and sites closed at short notice. The McKenzie River Rainforest walk has already been closed. Many roads and tracks will be very wet and may have trees and other debris across them.”
“And if people are driving within the parks please take extra care when approaching rivers, creeks and waterways and do not park, seek shelter or camp under trees which may be weakened in this type of weather”, said Mr McCutcheon.
