- Shepparton is a fabulous rural city in the northern Goulburn Valley.
- It has most of the attractions you would find living close to a major city without the traffic jams and congestion. Even driving a large 4wheel drive through the centre of the city and finding a car park has never presented me with any worries. In fact I find it easier than negotiating some of the car parks in far smaller rural towns. As I shopped yesterday I saw advertising for live theatre performances of the variety you would usually need to travel to a capital city to find.
- Shopping in the city of Shepparton is fabulous even if you don’t have access to nfl shop coupons.
- Reg and I had a great shop up day yesterday and we asked for and received discounts everywhere we went. Gray nomads need to be careful with our spending money. Having just purchased my new iMac computer I am very wary of spending blow outs, however I was also sporting a very scruffy hairstyle after 5 months of travelling without having visited a hairdresser and I needed a few new outfits due to putting on a few kilo while in tour. Reg and I had been cracking jokes about the holes in his underwear and how I could not get his hoody off his back to wash it since he had discovered the pleasure of owning one. It was time for a men’s clothing shop up.
- So out we went ‘to town,’ on a spending spree on a seniors budget.
- Firstly we went to the hairstylist and found one that offers a seniors discount. I had a great restyle for only $20.
- I purchased clothing at three clothing stores. One was having a 40% off regular price sale. Reg bought all he needed there. His new Bonds hoody was marked down from $65. to $29 and the underwear was buy two get one free plus 40% off regular price.
- I bought my undies and a night dress at the 40% off sale then found two $39.95 jackets in an other store and asked if I could received a seniors discount off the $79.90 price. I was offered a store card which gave me a 10% discount when used in combination with my seniors card, and then I was told that if I added my email address to my details I also received a $20. Gift voucher which I could use straight away. So I received a $28. Discount off my purchase and have two new jackets for only $51.90…very pleased with that.
- Still looking for some quality over blouses that might hopefully hide those regained kilo, until I loose them, yet still be wearable afterwards…lol I always want the best for my money. I went to a dressier, though not too costly store and I did find exactly what I needed and bought three very smart, button down the front, ladies shirt style blouses. Fashionable, without being so much so that they would date. They were made of the quality fabric I always look for when I buy clothes. Unlike many young people today, I expect my clothes to last for 20 years and lol, then think I am cheated if they wear out. Once more I asked for a discount. Again the store card and my seniors card combination gave me a 10% discount and I was told of a magazine I could buy for $4.75 (so I sent Reg magazine shopping while I was in the change room) that has a $20. Store gift voucher in it. So once again, I got 10% and $20. off my purchases, for asking about any discounts available.
- In another expensive clothing store there were three tops in a specials basket for $20. Each marked down from almost $100. They were in good basic colours. One pair of marked down, good brand black slacks and I had a full outfit of clothing.
- I asked for a bulk purchase (4 items) and a seniors discount, in the expensive clothing store, but was refused on the basis that the clothes were already very mush marked down. I had not expected to get a discount but now, I always remember to ask. There was a very nice shirt I liked in that expensive clothing store. It stayed there on the rack. I found ones I liked even more and was able to buy three, in that mid priced store where I also got the great discounts and the used the shopping discount voucher.
- Even this top of the range iMac computer I’m writing about my shopping discounts chat on, was at a discount price. When I want to buy something these days I go on line, searching for discount vouchers, discount prices (which I weigh up with the credibility of the seller) and I am in the stores asking for discount prices and how I can receive these. I have learned not to just assume that things you would love to have, are unattainable. Aside from generating some income though doing some extra work there is hundreds of dollars to be saved by asking and searching for the discounted price.
- Don’t forget also that here in Shepparton there is the SPC cannery outlet store. Those SPC, 500 gram fruit in fruit juice jars that sell in the supermarkets for almost $5. Are only $1. this week in the outlet store. We buy our unsweetened pineapple and beetroot there as well.
- On our way home when we drop into the supermarket I head straight for the near the use by date specials of the dairy and meat departments. I usually ignore the discounts that are only around the 10% to 20% off mark as those prices are still usually too high a price for me. I love it however when there was a moderate price to begin with and they have discounted by 50%. When that happens I buy all the quality cuts they have and fill the freezer with them. I even take a chest freezer with us when we tour in the caravan. It saved me hundreds of dollars this year as I was able to purchase prime steak at a $4.95 a kilo price on three occasions and legs of lamb and large chickens for only $5.95. We eat well and I dress as I wish to, because I shop for specials on quality items.
- Shepparton is a shopper’s paradise. I also found inland NSW and QLD excellent value for fresh produce this year and many country town independent clothing stores sell quality brands without the high mark up of the city stores.
